Sept 30th- After reviewing the feedback on your argument essay, identify one thing you did well and one area you need to improve. Explain what you will do differently the next time you write an AP Lang argument essay.

One thing I did well on my argumentative essay after seeing my feedback would be my use of relevant evidence throughout my essay, such as the example of my dad and his selfies. Overall, I think my evidence is strong but I could get better at my reasoning and explaining how my evidence connects back to the claim. As with stronger reasoning I'm sure I could get the full 4/4 points on my evidence and potentially the point for sophistication which would create a big difference in my score. So, overall, I think the best idea would be to focus on earning that extra point in my evidence by connecting it back to the claim and using effective reasoning.

Sept 29th- Write about a conversation that changed you.

A conversation that changed me would probably be with my aunt, bless her heart. She's probably the most creative and wonderful person I've ever met but she's let her body deteriorate and her bone disease and the fear of living take control of her life. I go visit her often though, because I think my dad's wrong about her. He thinks shes a prick and a lonely woman awaiting her death but I see someone who was once full of life and passion that got used and abused by the world and let that abuse get to her later in life. But about 6 months ago I was talking to her and she was talking to me in her wheelchair like she always makes an effort to get in when we come over. We were talking about all kinds of things, Art and Music are passions that we can relate on. Anyways, back to the point we were talking about art and passions and eventually it divulged into a conversation about me, Now, I tend to think I'm weird, I don't really fit in with most people. I told her that...

Sept 28th- Talk about a time when you had to write a poem, whether it was for an assignment, event, or special occasion. What was the writing process like for you, and were you proud of the finished product?

The last time I had to write a poem was in 8th grade. My 8th grade lit teacher was trying to engrave the point that songs are poetry. So for that we needed to not only choose some of our favorite songs that described our summers. But also write a short poem inspired by the songs we picked. So, for the writing process I made a playlist of the songs I chose and jolted down lines that stood out for me. Later refining it and using figurative language to further strengthen my poem. Overall, That's my plan for our poetry assignment as media of various kinds really gets my creative juices going when it comes to writing or art.

Sept 18th- Think about your practice with the “So What?” method today. What is one thing you understand about commentary now that you did not fully understand before? How will you apply it when writing your next AP Lang argument?

Absent

Sept 16th- After reviewing and scoring other AP Language argument essays, identify two important takeaways that you can apply to your own writing. Explain what you learned about claims, evidence, commentary, the “so what?” explanation, or the AP rubric. Use specific observations from the essays you reviewed. Write one complete paragraph.

Two important takeaways that I got from grading the other AP Language argumentative essays that I can apply to my own writing for the future would be to make sure I get the easy points first and then develop my writing so I can hopefully score all 6 points. Firstly, it's important to note that for the AP test the argumentative essays are broken down into 6 points. The first one is extremely easy being the thesis, this would provide me with at least 1 point to start my essay. I learned from the essays that it was really hard not to get this point. The second thing that I got from the essays we graded was the importance of the evidence point as it counts for 4/6 of the points, which is two thirds of the points. It's really important to fully develop your body paragraphs to ensure that you receive at least 3 or 4 points on your evidence to ensure you do well. And lastly the sophistication point is the hardest to get but only counts for one point. If you use your time well it may ...

September 15th Some students look at a rubric only after receiving their grade, while others use it as a guide while completing the assignment. Which approach do you usually take? After reviewing the AP Lang Argument Essay rubric today, explain how you could use the rubric as a roadmap to improve your argument writing.

Usually, when doing the assignment I look at the rubric, then I formulate my assignment. After I'm finished with the assignment I will look at the rubric to check if there is anything that can be done to make my work better fit into the rubric. Overall, these skills can be used in AP Lang via the Argumentative Essay rubric to formulate and cultivate an argument that is overall a more strong version  then it once was. By doing this I should be able to follow the rubric as a map that will assure that I get the 5/6 that I'm going for.

Sept 14th- Think about a time when you completed an assignment without fully understanding what the teacher was looking for. How might knowing the “ins and outs” of a rubric change the way you approach an assignment? Connect your experience to what you learned today about the AP Lang Argument Essay rubric.

Last year I took AP World History which was a hard class for me personally because of the high amount of material and coverage of the class. in the class you're really learning about how AP tests and exams are scored. I had Mr. Stean and his focus was for us to be able to look at the rubric and secure those points that we can get, even if we might not fully comprehend what the question or examination of a time period is. Using that during the test it asked me about on my last LEQ (Long Essay Question) about a period and migration during the 1800 to 1900's that I didn't really fully comprehend. This could have been disastrous for me as it's 15% of my grade and if I had made mistakes prior which realistically I probably did, it could lock me out of getting a 4 which was my ultimate goal for the class. Although, by using my comprehension of what the LEQ's rubric is I was able to synthesize an essay about economic depressions and religious persecutions during the time ...

Sept 11th- Today, you had the opportunity to read your classmates’ writing. What was it like seeing how other people in the class think and express their ideas? What did you notice or find interesting about reading different perspectives and approaches?

when reading my classmates writing it felt good to see other peoples ideas on their topics. I felt validated that the prompts were all unpopular and that my writing seemed to be on par with everyone else's writing.  It was really cool seeing everyone's ways of expressing their ideas as everyone has a writing style that they themselves have cultivated throughout their years, as such as noticed that everyone's perspective and approach to writing was different. I contribute this through everyone's different collective experiences and education when it comes to literature and writing.

Sept 9th- Think of a time when you or someone you know used informal language in a situation where formal language may have been more appropriate. What happened? Looking back, what could have been said differently, and what did the situation teach you about choosing your words carefully?

A Time where I used informal language where formal language would be more appropriate is when I asked my boss for time off for my birthday party but I was more casual with my tone. But he was already pissed off so it didn't fly too well so needless to say I didn't get the time off so now I have to have my party in October. Looking back I should have used more formal language or waited for a different time where he wasn't so angry.

Sept 8th Working with others can expose you to ideas or perspectives you may not have considered on your own. What is one idea, suggestion, or approach from a group member that improved your paragraph or changed the way you thought about the argument? Explain how it helped you.

one suggestion I received from a group member was the perspective of how mental disabilities may affect classroom excellence and proficiency which would create a inequality within students. This changed how I though about the argument, Instead of just the though of how intelligence makes us unequal it turned into how disabilities give people opportunities that others do not have. This helped me formulate my argument as it provided the framework to think about my unpopular opinion more critically and write more thoughtfully.

Sept 4th- Write about something you’ve always been curious about.

Something I've always been curious about is animal. I absolutely love animals, in face I have two dogs myself. I've spent hundreds of hours on the computer watching and researching about animals, It's absolutely my passion! In the future I wish to be able to work with animals, whether that be zoo keeping or veterinarian science. I think animals have taken over my brain at a young age. My mom used to have a lot of dogs and she also used to live with her friends that lived on a farm and I got to play with all kinds of farm animals when I was little, Such as Goats and Chickens. All together all these life experiences have led me to have a certain love and curiosity for animals.

Sept 2nd- Today, we learned how writers create a clear line of reasoning by connecting a claim, evidence, commentary, and conclusion. Which part of building an argument is most challenging for you, and why?

I think the hardest part of making a clear line of reasoning for me is the reasoning part. I think this is because for me it's kind of tough to explain why my evidence relates back to my claim. In my head it makes sense on how they're connected so putting it into words that are not arguable against can be kind of tough. But, I think taking this class has helped me with the reasoning part of the line of reasoning a lot and has made it a lot stronger than it was previously.

Sept 1st Write about a fear you have overcome.

A fear that I used to have was roller coasters. They used to scare me because I didn't understand how fun they could be and just felt overstimulating. But about a year ago I started to learn how to enjoy them more. I went with my friend Xander and we went to six flags when almost no one was there. The lines were super short and we started on some easier rides. we must have went on the batman about 9 times. And then we went to American Scream Machine, That one hurt my back. After that we went on the Goliath, At that point I was ready to throw my hands in the air, It was a lot of fun. But the park was about to close so we decided to go on the Twisted cyclone, that one is probably my favorite now. It was so fun!

August 31st- Think about the word or phrase you find yourself using the most right now. What is it, what does it mean, and why has it become part of your everyday vocabulary? Explain when you typically use it and what your choice of this word or phrase might reveal about you.

I have a lot of words and phrases that I've put into my everyday vocabulary, Although embarrassing to admit to be honest. Of course, most of it is slang, but it's often things my friends say or that I see on Twitter that I think is funny. And some of them become inside jokes between me and my friends. One example is saying "True Dat, True Dat" Whenever I agree with something, I've picked that up from my friend Eden and we say it when we agree with someone, especially when they say something kind of personal or embarrassing. It's like a way to show that you support them.       Additionally, Whenever me and my friends see my friend Jesus we call him Boss or Boss man. That's because he posted a picture on his story from his job saying "I feel like a boss in this place". So we decided to tease him by calling him boss. Although, I think he likes the name because we joke about the name getting to his head and how he's a lucky charm for his s...
